ATLANTA- (Tuesday, July 12, 2011) – Senate Majority Leader Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) has been chosen to serve as a member of The Council of State Governments’ International Committee for 2011 and 2012. CSG is a nonpartisan organization that fosters partnerships of learning by advising state government officials and leaders in their process of formulating public policy. In his new role, Rogers will help the committee track global economic developments and how they will impact state government. CSG national committees meet twice a year. This year’s 2011 North American Summit & National Conference will be held Oct. 19-23 in Bellevue, Washington.
“One of the most effective ways to grow our economy is to sell Georgia around the globe. I am honored to join this committee and search for every way that we can create jobs in Georgia by building relationships internationally,” Rogers said. “Georgia’s workforce, climate, tax structure, right to work status, and transportation system makes us a very attractive place to do business. Working with other legislators and international interests will be a benefit to our state.”
The mission of CSG’s International Committee is to track and interpret international trends of importance to state governments. These trends include broad developments in the global economy that impact state governments as well as trends involving specific state international initiatives in trade, education and other key sectors. The committee promotes dialogue on important trends to identify best practices among state international programs. In addition, the committee oversees CSG’s wide portfolio of exchange programs, research projects and other international initiatives. The committee is made up of officials from all branches of state government as well as International Partner representatives and CSG Associate members.
The Council of State Governments tracks public policy issues in various areas across the country, including education, health, energy and environment, and transportation at its headquarters office. In addition, several policy programs offer an expanded look into specific categories, such as public safety and justice issues at the national Justice Center, public health issues at Healthy States, combined state efforts in areas of common interest through the National Center for Interstate Compacts, and model legislation through the Suggested State Legislation program
