ATLANTA (October 26, 2018) | Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) presented and spoke to REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Georgia scholarship recipients on Wednesday, October 24, at Bleckley County Middle School. The five students were each presented with a check for $10,000, to be used when they graduate from high school and enroll in a post-secondary institution.
“I am honored to have been able to participate in this ceremony and look forward to seeing what these bright young men and women can accomplish in the next few years,” said Sen. Walker. “The REACH Georgia program is a great incentive and opportunity for students to strive to meet and exceed their goals. These students represent the future of our community and I am so proud to know that they are willing to step up to the plate and have so many wonderful teachers to help guide them along in their education.”
The REACH Georgia Scholarship was presented to five students, Laila Balderas, Ebryonna Hall, Harley Harper, Michael Stokes and Tyler Wilcox, who have shown academic promise, have excellent attendance records and have a good attitude. This program started on February 6, 2012, with 35 scholarship participants. The goal of the program is to help under-served students from across Georgia reach their academic potential through a scholarship intended to provide them with the financial stability they need to graduate high school, attend college and live a successful life. Today, the program is active in 103 school systems and has nearly 1,200 students participating in the scholarship program.
