ATLANTA (March 3, 2022) | Earlier this week, Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) joined Gov. Brian Kemp at an announcement at the Capitol on the newly-formed partnership between Flint Energies and Conexon Connect that will provide broadband service to 31,000 homes and businesses, including many in Houston and Peach Counties.
“This announcement by Flint Energies and Conexon Connect is historic and will bring critically needed broadband services to thousands of homes and business in the middle Georgia area,” said Sen. Walker. “This partnership and the broadband connections it will deliver are vital in order for our community to remain competitive in attracting economic and educational development opportunities. I want to thank all of the stakeholders involved in creating this partnership, as well as Governor Kemp for prioritizing investing in broadband in the communities in our state in most need.”
The partnership between Flint Energies and Connect is made possible by Senate Bill 2 passed in 2019, which allows electric membership cooperatives (EMCs), including Flint Energies, to provide broadband services or leverage EMC infrastructure in other ways to aid deployment of broadband. Including Flint Energies, 20 EMCs in Georgia are currently providing high-speed internet or partnering with a provider to expand broadband service in rural communities across the state. Collectively, these projects represent a $770 million investment and will impact more than 282,000 Georgians in 89 counties.
