ATLANTA (February 13, 2019) | Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) was recently appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) Authority Overview Committee. The committee is made up of six state Senators and six state Representatives, appointed by the Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House, respectively.
“I am honored to be appointed to this legislative oversight committee,” said Sen. Walker. “The World Congress Center is a major attraction in Atlanta and serves as the host site for everything from major sporting events, to trade shows, conventions, concerts and corporate events. I am excited to serve as a member of a committee that has the opportunity to bring economic prosperity to Georgia, as well as serve as a voice on the board as to how areas outside metro Atlanta can benefit from events held at the Georgia World Congress Center.”
The GWCC Authority was created in 1971 by the Georgia General Assembly to serve as the body that oversees the Georgia World Congress Center, Centennial Olympic Park and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Authority is involved in decision-making that brings international trade events and exhibitions to Georgia. The Georgia World Congress Center is the third largest convention center in the United States.
