Sen. Larry Walker Appointed Chair of Senate Study Committee

ATLANTA (August 15, 2019)  | Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) has been appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve as Chair of the Senate Study Committee on Portable Benefits for Independent Workers.

“I am honored to be appointed to this important study committee and look forward to learning more about workforce benefits in regards to independent workers,” said Sen. Walker. “Our workforce is ever-evolving and the contracting, temporary and on-demand work style is becoming increasingly common in parts of our state. It’s imperative that we take a look at the benefits they have and consider options that allow this new and innovative work style to work best for our both the employers and employees.”

As stated in the resolution, the committee shall be comprised of five members of the Senate. The Senate Study Committee on Portable Benefits for Independent Workers will study the changing workforce to better understand the benefits associated with contractors and temporary employees in a gig economy. The study committee will consider legislation that would allow them to take their benefits with them as they move about the workforce. The committee will report their findings no later than December 1, 2019.
