Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick Appointed to the Georgia Joint Defense Commission

ATLANTA (September 21, 2020) | On Friday, Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick (R – Marietta) was appointed by Gov. Brian P. Kemp to the Georgia Joint Defense Commission. Chosen to represent the Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Sen. Kirkpatrick will work alongside seven other representatives to various military bases across the state.

“I am both honored and humbled to be given this opportunity to represent our state’s military and defense installations, as we work to promote the best interests of those who tirelessly serve us,” said Sen. Kirkpatrick. “This Commission recognizes the invaluable contributions of our service men and women in fostering security, whereas Dobbins in particular serves as a hub for leadership and excellence. I am proud to represent a base that has such a profound impact on Cobb County, as well as the entire metro area. I look forward to working with my colleagues to protect this, and our other important Georgia military bases.”

The Georgia Joint Defense Commission was first created in 2018 pursuant to Senate Bill 395. As stated in the bill, the Commission is tasked with advising the Governor and members of the General Assembly on state and federal defense and military issues, as well as crafting recommendations that promote the “long-term viability and development” of both active and civilian military infrastructure.
