Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick Appointed to Chair Senate Study Committee on Healthcare Violence

ATLANTA (July 12, 2021) | Recently, Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick (R – Marietta) was appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve as Chair of the Senate Study Committee on Violence Against Health Care Workers.

“Those in our healthcare community are shining examples of public service leaders,” said Sen. Kirkpatrick. “These are individuals who risk their lives daily to ensure the health and safety of others and during the pandemic, have redefined their own personal sacrifices. They have placed themselves at the epicenter of COVID-19, working long hours and selflessly making decisions that prioritize protecting their own families from the virus. Ultimately though, many of our healthcare workers are vulnerable to workplace violence and a staggering number of hospital staff have been assaulted at least once in their career. I am honored to be chosen for this committee and to be given the opportunity to advocate for our hard-working healthcare workers who may fear going into work each day. I look forward to all of the work to come.”

The Senate Study Committee on Violence Against Health Care Workers was established through Senate Resolution 281 during the 2021 Legislative Session. The following members have been appointed to serve alongside Sen. Kirkpatrick:

  • Sen. Butch Miller (R – Gainesville)
  • Sen. Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega)
  • Sen. Valencia Seay (R – Buford)
  • Sen. Michelle Au (D – Johns Creek)
  • Sen. Sheila McNeil (R – Brunswick)
  • Sen. Bo Hatchett (R – Cornelia), Ex- Officio
