ATLANTA (August 18, 2020) | Yesterday, Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan appointed Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell) to the Senate Law Enforcement Reform Study Committee.
“Each day, the brave men and women who make up Georgia’s law enforcement community put their own lives on the line to protect the lives and property of citizens throughout the state,” said Sen. Albers. “This study committee will grant us the opportunity to analyze some of the current methods utilized by our public safety officers and see where areas of improvement exist that may better ensure the safety of the general public, as well as our officers. I am honored to have been named a member of this study committee and I look forward to working with Chairman Cowsert and my fellow committee members on ways we can better protect all Georgians.”
The Senate Study Committee on Law Enforcement Reform was established through the passage of Senate Resolution 1007 during the 2020 Legislative Session. The study committee is tasked with identifying areas where state laws may need revision when it comes to issues such as oversight, the use of lethal and nonlethal force, practices that may require more strict regulation including the use of chokeholds, and techniques for de-escalation.
