ATLANTA (August 22, 2016) | Lt. Governor Casey Cagle selected Sen. Jeff Mullis (R- Chickamauga) to serve as Co-Chair of three Joint Study Committees and as Chair of two Senate Study Committees. Sen. Mullis will act as Co-Chair of the State Commission on Narcotic Treatment Programs, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure and Vehicle Joint Study Committee and the Music Economic Development Joint Study Committee. In addition, Sen. Mullis will serve as Chair of the Senate Legislative Process Study Committee and the Senate Sexual Offender Registry Study Committee.

Legislation creating each of these study committees was adopted during the 2016 legislative session. All of the study committees, except for one, are responsible for submitting a report of their findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, by December 1, 2016. The deadline for the State Commission on Narcotic Treatment Programs is January 1, 2017.
The State Commission on Narcotic Treatment Programs was created by the passage of Senate Bill 402. This commission will conduct the study of the narcotic treatment program license requirements, enforcement and other issues dealing with reported and documented increases in heroin addiction and overdoses in Georgia.
Senate Resolution 1038 created the Joint Alternative Fuels Infrastructure and Vehicles Study Committee to study the conditions, needs, issues and problems with installing refueling infrastructure. Incentives for investors and operators will also be reviewed.
The Joint Music Economic Development Study Committee is composed of thirteen members who will study the current state of post-secondary music education opportunities, review the business side of music in Georgia and analyze the correlation between music promotion and economic development. This joint committee was created by Senate Resolution 1027.
Senate Resolution 842 outlines the duties, membership and rules of the Senate Study Committee on the Legislative Process. This study committee will evaluate and determine an efficient, transparent method of reviewing bills, amendments, substitute bills and conference committee reports.
The Senate Sexual Offender Registry Study Committee will study the ways monitoring activities of sexual offenders can be enhanced and strengthened. Senate Resolution 1032 creates the committee.
