ATLANTA (November 25, 2025) — Today, Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas) announced his plan to dedicate the intersection of State Route 92 at Cedarcrest Road in Paulding County as the Sgt Major John Barry Dean Memorial Intersection.
“Sgt Major Dean not only served honorably as a Marine for nearly 40 years, but also served Paulding County Schools with great care and compassion for more than six years,” said Sen. Anavitarte. “His bravery and service protecting the people of this great nation and his deep appreciation for public education did not go unnoticed. Dedicating this intersection in his name will symbolize our community’s gratitude and continued support for service members and leaders in education alike. As Senate Majority Leader, I will always work to support Georgians who have dedicated themselves to lives of service, whether active or inactive.”
Rep. Joseph Gullett (R–Dallas) also shared his praise for Sgt Major Dean, saying, “John Dean was the kind of leader whose impact endures long after he’s gone. This intersection stands as a simple but powerful reminder of his lifelong service to others.”
Sgt Major Dean passed away at his home in Dallas, GA at the age of 75. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1968, serving for more than 36 years as an avionics technician. He was later elected to the Paulding County School Board in 2018, where he served for over six years.
