ATLANTA (Jan. 21, 2010) – State Sen. Bill Heath (R-Bremen) was recently named president of the State Agriculture and Rural Leaders Association at the Legislative Chairs Summit in Orlando, Florida. He served as the vice president from 2008-2009.
“Agriculture is the backbone of our nation, reaching across many economic segments of our society. From the food our children eat, to the products produced and marketed internationally, agriculture is a part of our daily lives. I am honored and humbled to work on behalf of the 31st district and all Georgians in keeping our food safe and achieving economic success,” said Heath.
The State Agriculture and Rural Leaders Association offers an opportunity for Legislative Agriculture Chairs from the United States and territories, Canadian provinces and Mexico, to examine and broaden the understanding of agriculture and rural issues. The annual conference attracted attendees from 47 states, Puerto Rico, and five Canadian provinces. Currently, it is the only organization made up of legislative members that is solely devoted to agriculture and rural issues. This year, the Association took up issues such as biofuels, water, agricultural trade, food safety, agro-terrorism and rural development
Those who attend the conference participated in a variety of informative activities, including learning state-of-the-art management practices. Additionally, members were able to meet with agribusiness executives, as well as farmers and ranchers from around the world.
Bill Heath is a business owner of Design Specialists and B&S Farms, a cow-calf operation.
