ATLANTA (June 15, 2016) | Sen. Harold Jones II will be presented with the Guiding Star award by Georgia Equality for his steadfast work to improve the lives of the LGBT community in Georgia at the Evening for Equality, on Saturday, June 18 at the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel.
“It is an honor to receive this incredible award,” said Sen. Jones. “I believe that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and equally, and I will continue to fight for the LGBT community in Georgia.”
“The Board of Georgia Equality chose to honor Sen. Jones with our Guiding Star award because as a freshman senator from outside of the metro-Atlanta area, he has been strong voice for LGBT inclusion and equality. Whether it is a passionate floor speech against legislation that would discriminate against LGBT Georgians or by showing up at LGBT events in the Augusta area, he is proving to be a stalwart ally of a community that too often struggles to find allies in more rural parts of our state.” Jeff Graham, Executive Director at Georgia Equality
Sen. Jones was selected to receive this award for his efforts fighting against House Bill 757, the religious freedom legislation, and his continuous support of the LGBT community throughout the state.
