ATLANTA (October 2, 2018) |Sen. Gloria Butler (D – Stone Mountain) recently visited students at Morgan’s Academy in DeKalb County and The Harvest School in Gwinnett County to celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week.
“I had a wonderful time visiting and reading to the students at Morgan’s Academy in DeKalb County and The Harvest School in Gwinnett County,” said Sen. Butler. “Georgia’s Pre-K program is vital to igniting a passion for learning and providing all our children, regardless of their socioeconomic status, with a quality education. I am so happy to be able to celebrate and see first-hand all the wonderful things our Pre-K programs are doing and to be able to spend time with these boys and girls of our future!”
Voices for Georgia’s Children, which hosts Georgia Pre-K Week, gave this brief history on Georgia’s Pre-K program: “In 1992, Governor Zell Miller launched a pilot program called Georgia Pre-K. The lottery-funded program served 750 four-year-olds in the state. Georgia Pre-K is a voluntary, free program available to all of Georgia’s four-year-olds regardless of parental income. Now, 26 years later, the program has laid a solid foundation for academic excellence and future success in the lives of approximately 1.6 million children.”
