ATLANTA (September 10, 2020) | Sen. Gloria Butler (D – Stone Mountain) will host the first meeting of the Senate Study Committee on Surgical Smoke Evacuation Systems on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia State Capitol.
“In preparation for and anticipation of the first study committee, I have been incredibly encouraged by the amount of support and engagement we’ve been able to receive thus far,” said Sen. Butler. “At the heart of it, I believe we are all motivated by the same thing, by the undeniable claim that surgical smoke is plaguing our state’s healthcare system and diminishing the quality of life of so many Georgians. My hope is that we will be able to continue this same level of momentum throughout the course of the next few meetings, to help generate ingenious legislative solutions to these critical challenges. I look forward to all of the knowledge we will gain and finding ways we can better serve those who work hard for this state each and every day.”
The Senate Study Committee on Surgical Smoke Evacuation Systems was established pursuant to Senate Resolution 981 during the 2020 legislation session and the following members were appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan on August 10, 2020: Sen. Gloria Butler (Chairwoman), Sen. Chuck Hufstetler (R – Rome), Sen. Marty Harbin (R – Tyrone), Sen. Nan Orrock (D – Atlanta) and Sen. Sheikh Rahman (D – Lawrenceville).
Following the first meeting on September 15, 2020, the tentative dates for the second and third meeting are October 20, 2020, and November 17, 2020. For the full text of SR 981, please follow this link: http://www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/en-US/Display/20192020/SR/981.
