Sen. Freddie Powell Sims Appointed to the Georgia Commission on Civics Education

ATLANTA (June 29, 2022) | On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, Sen. Freddie Powell Sims (D – Dawson) was appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve as a member of the Georgia Commission on Civics Education.

“It is imperative that we maintain a comprehensive understanding of civic duties and governmental operations within our state in order to sustain a flourishing society. With this commission, it is my hope that we will be able to uncover more innovative ways to continue to uphold these standards of proper civic duties as they relates to governmental operations,” said Sen. Sims. “As a former educator, I am honored to have been selected by the Lt. Governor to serve in this position and I am eager to get to work on this vital commission.”

The Georgia Commission on Civics Education was adopted pursuant to Senate Bill 220, passed during the 2022 Legislative Session. The Georgia Commission on Civics Education establishes a 17-member commission tasked with encouraging civic engagement and improving Georgia’s K-12 curriculum surrounding public service and civic duties.
