ATLANTA (March 7, 2013) –Senator Vincent Fort (D- Atlanta) today led the passage of Senate Bill 92 out of the State Senate by a vote of 45-2. The legislation would permit a car rental tax to be used for public transit construction and improvements.
“Other states use car rental taxes to fund public transit,” said Sen. Fort. “I applaud my colleagues in the Senate for supporting this important measure. Local governments are in dire need of additional funding to make repairs to their infrastructure and this bill would do just that.”
With the failure of last year’s TSPLOST referendum, it is important to find alternative ways to fund public transit repairs. SB 92 will now continue on to the House of Representatives for consideration.
