Sen. Fort Calls on AG to Investigate Missing East Point Documents

ATLANTA (August 5, 2013) – Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) recently sent a letter to Attorney General Sam Olens calling for an investigation of the circumstances surrounding missing East Point documents.

A recent forensic audit found that over the last twelve years, more than half of the city’s money was spent without proper documentation, amounting to $200 million.  State law requires retention of such financial documents for 5 years.

The letter states:

Dear Attorney General Olens:

A forensic audit commissioned by the City of East Point indicates that there may be a trove of documents missing.

It is my understanding that state law requires that these documents must be retained for 5 years.  It appears that there may have been a violation of state law regarding the retention of official documents.

There have been recent rumors that the documents in question may have been discovered. There has been no official statement from East Point to that effect.

I am requesting that your office investigate this issue so that the appropriate actions can be taken if any State laws have been violated.

Sincerely,

Vincent D. Fort

39th Senatorial District
