ATLANTA (July 1, 2019) | Sen. Emanuel Jones (D – Decatur) was recently appointed to the Senate Study Committee on Community Schools by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan.
“We all know that a quality education is key to producing successful members of society,” said Sen. Jones. “However, we also know that if a child is not receiving basic needs at home, they will not reach their full potential in the classroom. By engaging members of the community including businesses, non-profits, local governments, social service organizations and other stakeholders and making them integral parts to a child’s development, we are increasing that student’s opportunities for future success. I hope that through this study committee, we can further research this holistic approach to education and see what benefits this plan might bring to Georgia’s students. I would like to thank Lt. Governor Duncan for appointing me as a part of this committee and I look forward to working with my colleagues on this important issue.”
The Senate Study Committee on Community Schools was created through the passage of Senate Resolution 353, sponsored by Sen. Jones, during the 2019 Legislative Session. The committee is composed of five members and will be tasked with examining the role community schools could play in our state. The committee is required to submit their findings by December 1, 2019.
