ATLANTA (September 23, 2016) | Sen. Elena Parent (D – Atlanta) will honor U.S. Ambassador David Adelman for his dedication and service to the citizens of Georgia with a bridge dedication ceremony on Friday, September 30, 2016. Throughout his career, Adelman has served as assistant attorney general of Georgia, a state senator and as a United States Ambassador to Singapore among many other roles.
“Ambassador Adelman has made a great impact on our state and our nation through his years of public service,” said Sen. Parent. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to honor my dear friend, mentor and colleague in such a remarkable way.”
“It was a privilege to serve the people of Georgia as a lawmaker as well as the United States as a diplomat. Our security and prosperity are strongest when we build bridges between countries and communities,” said Ambassador Adelman. “I am truly humbled by my former colleagues in the General Assembly honoring me in this way.”
In addition to the bridge dedication, Ambassador Adelman will formally donate his official papers, including speeches, notes, meeting materials, travel itineraries, strategic planning documents, official correspondence, legislation and committee work, which document his diplomatic and legislative service, to the University of Georgia Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies.
The bridge dedication, passed during the 2016 legislative session as Part III in House Resolution 1052, names the bridge on State Route 42/Briarcliff Road over the south fork of Peachtree Creek in DeKalb County as the Ambassador David Adelman Bridge.
