ATLANTA (October 2, 2019) | Sen. Donzella James (D – Atlanta) was recently appointed to the Georgia Behavioral Health Reform & Innovation Commission by Gov. Brian Kemp. A swearing in ceremony was held at the state Capitol on Wednesday, September 25.
“Behavioral health has always been one of my main priorities as a legislator,” said Sen. James. “Behavior and mental healthcare are critical, but unfortunately often overlooked issues that affect countless Georgians across the state. I am thankful that Gov. Kemp saw and addressed the need to improve access to behavioral healthcare and bring new, innovative solutions to the discussion. I look forward to working with the members of the commission to ensure that all in our state have access to the mental and behavioral health resources they need.”
The Georgia Behavioral Health Reform & Innovation Commission was created through the passage of House Bill 514 during the 2019 Legislative Session. As stated in the legislation, the commission is composed of 24 members and will be responsible for “conducting a comprehensive review of the behavioral health system in Georgia.”
