ATLANTA (Jan. 29, 2024) – Today, Sen. Clint Dixon (R – Gwinnett) issued a statement regarding his authored legislation, Senate Bill 386, aimed at regulating and taxing sports betting under the oversight of the Georgia Lottery Commission. The allocated proceeds from SB 386 would contribute to student financial aid programs, including the HOPE college scholarship.
Discussing the purpose behind the measure, Sen. Dixon stated, “SB 386 is a vital piece of legislation that I am proud to have authored. By bringing an activity that countless Georgians already participate in – whether online, with friends, or with booking agents – under the regulation and direction of the Georgia Lottery Corporation, we can generate additional dollars to benefit future generations of Georgians. SB 386 would allocate proceeds towards the HOPE college scholarship, pre-kindergarten programs, and need-based student aid. With bipartisan support from colleagues including Senate Minority Leader Gloria Butler (D-Stone Mountain), Sen. Bo Hatchett (R-Cornelia), and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones; SB 386 is poised to impact Georgia’s industries, education systems, and economy. The bill will undergo discussion in the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism tomorrow, and I look forward to its continued progress.”
SB 386 has been assigned to the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism, with a committee hearing scheduled for tomorrow morning.
