ATLANTA (July 31, 2019) | Sen. Brandon Beach (R – Alpharetta) was recently appointed to serve as Chairman of the Senate Gaming and Pari-mutuel Wagering on Horse Racing and Growing Georgia’s Equine Industry Study Committee by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan.
“Each year, more and more budgetary demands are placed on our state to fund vital and important programs, such as the HOPE Scholarship,” said Sen. Beach. “We also know that by opening up new industries in our state, we would be creating new opportunities for jobs and further economic development throughout Georgia. This study committee will address the potential of bringing gaming and pari-mutuel wagering to our state in an effort to both bolster our tax revenues, as well as bring additional employment opportunities and resources to parts of the state that truly need it. As the number one state in the nation in which to do business, we should do all we can to maintain that title, while at the same time bring more tourist dollars to Georgia. I would like to thank Lt. Governor Duncan for appointing me to lead this committee and I look forward to starting to study this issue more in-depth with my fellow committee members.”
The Senate Gaming and Pari-mutuel Wagering on Horse Racing and Growing Georgia’s Equine Industry Study Committee was created through the passage of Senate Resolution 367 during the 2019 Legislative Session. The Committee will be composed of 11 members and will examine the possibility of legalizing pari-mutuel wagering and horse racing in Georgia. The Committee is required to submit any findings or recommendations by December 1, 2019.
