ATLANTA (February 6, 2014) | Senate Resolution 735 passed the Senate today 50-0. Sponsored by Senator Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta), SR 735 would create a centralized website for metro Atlanta’s four transit agencies public transportation.
“I am thankful for the support of my colleagues on the unanimous passing of Senate Resolution 735,” said Sen. Beach. “As the economic climate in our state continues to rise, it is crucial that our citizens and visitors have accessible and user friendly public transportation. By the four agencies coming together to coordinate and communicate, we are making great strides toward a world class regional system that makes Atlanta the model for public transportation throughout the country.”
After speaking with leadership from Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), Cobb Community Transit and Gwinnett County Transit, Sen. Beach requested the entities work together to develop a website that allows riders to plan and pay for a trip that involves riding one or more of the participating transit systems on one website (www.goatltransit.com).
The resolution will now head to the House of Representatives where it will await a vote. If passed, the website is expected to be online by July 1.
