ATLANTA – State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and State Senator Kim Jackson (D-Stone Mountain) today commend Pine Lake Mayor Melanie Hammet for her years of public service and for her retirement. House Resolution 9EX was adopted by the House of Representatives on Thursday, November 30, 2023, to honor Mayor Hammet and recognize her service to the citizens of Pine Lake.
“In a state where small cities like Pine Lake are vital for a strong future, Mayor Melanie Hammet’s leadership has been instrumental,” said. Rep. Davis. “Her dedication to community identity and the betterment of Pine Lake serves as a model for all. Melanie’s dedication to public service, her love for the arts and her innovative leadership have left a lasting mark on our city. I am proud to represent a community that has benefited from Melanie Hammet’s remarkable service.”

House Resolution 9EX recognizes and commends Melanie Hammet on her 15 years of public service as the Mayor of Pine Lake. The resolution also recognizes the role she played in creating innovative policies, programming and initiatives, including the rewriting of local zoning for the greater protection of the city’s environment. She has further been recognized as a trailblazer by her peers and constituents for her efforts to establish the Municipal Arts Panel (MAP), the MAPMakers Grant, the Stewards of Environmental Education and Design panel and the Kids Town Hall.
