Sen. Tommie Williams
While I often quote our founding fathers for their wisdom in creating a Constitution of almost divine qualities, there is one glaring issue that they overlooked. They should have required a balanced budget or at the very least limited debt except in time of war.
ATLANTA (Oct. 8, 2009) – Sen. Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) has been named Vice Chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Budgets and Revenue Standing Committee. Georgia Senator and NCSL President Don Balfour made the appointment. Seabaugh’s appointment now makes the sixth Georgia legislator in a national leadership role with NCSL.
ATLANTA (Oct. 7, 2009) – Georgia, like so many states, is facing tough economic times right now. Families and businesses alike are cutting back their budgets and concentrating on getting from one day to the next. However, many are cautiously optimistic as hopes for recovery begin to appear. While we stand on the brink of a new economic era, we must reevaluate where we are as a state. Operating in a newly recovered economy does not call for businesses as usual. As state leaders, now is the time to position our state to emerge from this downturn as the economic engine of the South.
ATLANTA (Oct. 6, 2009) – Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) has received a special invitation to testify before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support of the Committee on Ways and Means on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in Washington, D.C. The Subcommittee hearing is to evaluate the response of “safety net” programs during the recession, to which Rogers will discuss the lack of results in Georgia.
