ATLANTA (February 2, 2016) | Sen. Charlie Bethel (R – Dalton) has filed legislation that would enter the state of Georgia in the Interstate Power Compact upon legislative approval. The Interstate Power Compact seeks to increase state autonomy over environmental protections and provide more affordable access to reliable sources of electricity. The Georgia Senate is Rocking and Rolling
The Senate reconvened for week four after a busy third week of budget hearings and committee meetings. It was also a very productive week in that we’ve finally got the ball rolling on a number of pieces of legislation that are sure to benefit the people of Georgia. We also heard the first two bills of the session on the floor last week—signaling that the 2016 legislative session is well underway. Senate Bill 137 would expand current Georgia law to allow corporations to collect full property insurance payouts when a residence is completely destroyed by fire, and was unanimously passed. Senator JaNice Van Ness Receives Committee Appointments
ATLANTA (January 29, 2016) | Sen. JaNice Van Ness (R – Conyers) has been recently appointed to the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Oversight Committee (MARTOC) by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, and to three Senate Subcommittees. The Subcommittees are Healthcare Delivery and Pharmacology, which both fall under the Health and Human Services Committee, and the Academic Achievement Subcommittee, which falls under the Education and Youth Committee.
