ATLANTA (March 15, 2023) | Yesterday, March 14, 2023, Senator Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta) hosted a virtual town hall for constituents to discuss the Sterigenics facility located within his district in Cobb County. Sterigenics, a medical sterilization company, is facing legal action after it was revealed in 2019 that its Cobb County facility had emitted dangerous levels of ethylene oxide, a cancer-causing chemical.

Senators Matt Brass and Michael Rhett Honor Taiwanese Director-General

ATLANTA (March 14, 2023) | On Wednesday, March 15, Senator Matt Brass (R – Newnan) and Senator Michael Rhett (D – Marietta) will present Director-General Elliot Wang from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta with Senate Resolution 176, a resolution commending Taiwan for its relations with the United States and extended efforts strengthening in bilateral relations, including the launch of the US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held amongst legislators to outline current U.S. – Taiwan relations.

Sen. Jason Esteves to Host Virtual Town Hall on Sterigenics Facility

ATLANTA (March 13, 2023) | Tomorrow, March 14th, at 7:30 pm, Senator Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta) will host a virtual town hall to discuss Sterigenics, a medical sterilization firm, located in Cobb County. Sen. Esteves and his panel of guests will provide an update for constituents, gather input, and answer any questions about the status of the facility.

Georgia Senate Passes Georgia Promise Scholarship Act

ATLANTA (March 13, 2023) | On Monday, March 6, 2023, Senate Bill 233, the “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act,” passed the Georgia Senate. Sponsored by Chief Deputy Whip Sen. Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming), the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act would establish a state-funded $6,000 promise scholarship to be used towards qualified education expenses for each participating Georgia student. Students attending public schools in the lower quartile of academic performance statewide would be eligible for the scholarship. Further, SB 233 would prohibit the parents or legal guardians from having direct access to their child’s funds to prevent the misallocation of these funds for non-educational expenses. Annual standardized testing and audits would ensure the success and integrity of the program.
