Mullis: Busy First Days of Session despite Ice Storm

ATLANTA (January 26, 2011) – With the first week of the 2011 General Assembly completely turned upside down due to the ice storm that paralyzed much of north Georgia, State Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) still had plenty of duties to fulfill.  Mullis, who begins his sixth term in office, officially started work as one of Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle’s appointees to the Senate Committee on Assignments which governs the Senate’s day-to-day operations.

“Jeff is not only an effective and influential Senator; he is also a colleague that I am proud to call a friend,” said Cagle.  “As a leading voice on transportation, economic development, and many other issues, he has earned the respect of his fellow Senators and serves as a powerful advocate for his constituents.  I look forward to working with Senator Mullis to balance the state budget without raising taxes, create an economic climate that encourages job growth, and preserve the HOPE scholarship.”

Mullis was also one of the few legislators to serve on Governor Nathan Deal’s Escort committee for his first State of the State Address as governor.  Being selected to the escort committee has been a longstanding honor Mullis was grateful to be part of.

“Governor Deal is exactly the leader we need at this critical juncture on Georgia history,” said Mullis.  “His commitment to conservative principles and creating the right environment for jobs and economic growth will surely make for an effective partnership with the Senate in the years ahead.  I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of his first State of the State Address and look forward to working with our new governor and moving Georgia forward.”

Mullis is currently the chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and chairman of the Transportation Subcommittee of Senate Appropriations, Mullis will also serve as Secretary of the powerful Senate Rules Committee and sit on the Appropriations, Banking and Economic Development committees for the 2011-2012 Term.

Mullis resides with his wife Teresa and two children in Chickamauga, where he works as an economic developer.  He proudly represents the 53rd Senate District, which includes Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker counties.
