ATLANTA (February 3, 2012) – Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) welcomed Rev. Don Battle, Pastor of Divine Faith Ministries International, to serve as the Chaplain of the Day on February 2, 2012, in the State Senate.
“It was exciting to welcome not only my friend, but my pastor to the Chamber today,” said Sen. Seay, “He is a true man of God and his prayer to start the day was that of relevance and spirituality to us in the Senate.”
“It was an honor to welcome Rev. Battle to the Senate today. The tradition of the Senate to begin each day with a devotional and prayer allows us to set our mind and heart in the right direction as we make important policy decisions. As we face daunting challenges during this session, I’m confident that the Senate will answer the call to serve. Today, Rev. Battle encouraged Senators and inspired each of us to lead our state in the right direction,” Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle said.
Rev. Battle founded Divine Baptist Church in 1990 with his wife of 37 years, Gwen Battle, and only 60 members. His congregation has grown to three church locations and more than 8,000 members.
He graduated from Georgia State University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He has also received a Masters of Divinity and an honorary doctorate degree. He served valiantly in the U.S. Army and for 15 years as a police detective for the City of Atlanta.
