Lt. Governor Cagle and Sen. Heath Welcome Reverend Tony Samples as Chaplain of the Day

ATLANTA (February 6, 2012) – Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Senator Bill Heath (R- Bremen) welcomed Reverend Tony Samples, Pastor of Pickett’s Mill Baptist Church, to serve as the Chaplain of the Day on February 6, 2012 in the State Senate.

“I am honored that Rev. Samples was able to share with us his message of faith and conviction. He reminded us to lay everything in front of the Lord, because he is the one in control. It is great source of pride and comfort for me when I can share a touch of home with members from across our state. Tony and I have known each other since long before I was privileged to work for the citizens of Georgia. His message as a man of faith and as a friend will not be easily forgotten by any of us here today.” said Sen. Heath.

“It was an honor to welcome Reverend Samples to the Senate today.  The tradition of the Senate to begin each day with a devotional and prayer allows us to set our mind and heart in the right direction as we make important policy decisions.  As we face daunting challenges during this session, I’m confident that the Senate will answer the call to serve.  Today, Reverend Samples encouraged Senators and inspired each of us to lead our state in the right direction,” Lt. Governor Casey Cagle said.

Reverend Samples was called to preach at the age of 13 and began actively serving in staff positions in churches in 1979. He is a graduate of the University of West Georgia and attended New Orleans Seminary.   In 1992 Tony became the founding pastor at Pickett’s Mill Baptist Church in Dallas, GA, which is where he still serves today.
