Lt. Governor Cagle and Sen. Dean Burke to Host SB 180 Press Conference

ATLANTA (May 5, 2017)  | Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, with  Sen. Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge), members of the Rural Healthcare 180 task force, and rural hospital officials, will host a press conference on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 11:45 a.m. to discuss Senate Bill 180.

SB 180 continues the Senate’s efforts to ensure rural areas of Georgia are provided quality healthcare through the Rural Hospital Tax Credit, where individuals and corporations receive credits when they donate to rural hospitals. Specifically, this year’s bill increases the cap and credit amount. SB 180 goes into effect Monday, upon Governor Deal’s signature.

Last year, Lt. Governor Cagle created Rural Healthcare 180, a public-private task force to market the tax credit program, to provide “best practices” support to rural hospitals, and to develop long-term solutions to the financial problems of Georgia’s rural hospitals.

In addition, Lt. Governor Cagle brought together Senators Dean Burke, Renee Unterman, Jack Hill, Chuck Hufstetler, and Ben Watson to create Georgia’s Health Care Reform Task Force. Over the next year, the Task Force will seek to build on the achievements of SB 180 by working with stakeholders across the state to develop solutions that increase access to quality care throughout rural Georgia. The next meeting of Georgia’s Health Care Reform Task Force will be Monday, May 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in room 450 of the State Capitol.
