Chairwoman Sen. Tonya Anderson, Along with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, on the Passage of House Bill 531

ATLANTA (March 2, 2021) | In response to the passage of House Bill 531 yesterday, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Chairwoman Sen. Tonya P. Anderson issues the following statement:

“The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is disappointed, but not surprised that 97 members of the Georgia House of Representatives voted in favor of House Bill 531.

As we stated before, there is no factual evidence that the 2020 election was compromised, or any coordinated illegal act occurred. What we do know is thousands of volunteers called, texted, emailed, canvassed, rallied, and marched to empower Georgians to register and vote.

Regardless of the countless audits and recounts, our colleagues refuse to accept the truth; Georgia is changing. So, rather than embracing our future as a diverse state, some would rather turn back the clock and reestablish past practices of voter suppression.

The GLBC and our allies are prepared to fight this battle in the state Capitol, in the courtroom, and in the courts of public opinion. We will not stand idly by as legislators make a mockery of the electoral process and sully our democratic values just to placate their political fears. Truth and justice will take root in our great state and reveal to the citizenry the real conspiracy; silencing millions of voters.

Established in 1975, the GLBC is a 501(c)3 non-profit, nonpartisan organization comprising of 65 Georgia House and Senate members.
