Sen. Seay calls on Washington to continue Funding Transportation for Georgia’s Critical Need Population

ATLANTA (Feb 26, 2010) – After paratransit riders in Clayton County came close to losing a vital means of public transportation, Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) is urging President Barack Obama and Congress to continue funding public transportation for Georgia’s elderly and disabled citizens.  Her efforts come in response to Clayton County’s decision to shutter its C-TRAN public bus service, which serves 400 paratransit riders.  She shared her efforts with Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) commissioner Vance Smith and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) today during a transportation budget hearing at the State Capitol.

Sen. Seay Champions Awareness of Women’s Heart Disease

Sen. Seay announces National Wear Day in the Senate Chamber, surrounded by fellow female senators all dressed in red to raise awareness of women’s heart disease

ATLANTA (Feb 5, 2010) – Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) is encouraging everyone to Go Red for Women today to highlight the dangers of heart disease in women.  Today marks National Wear Red Day at the State Capitol, and is part of February’s American Heart Month that is sponsored annually by the American Heart Association.

Sen. Seay Introduces Bill Requiring First Aid Certification in GA High Schools

ATLANTA, GA.- (Jan. 13, 2010) – Yesterday, Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) introduced SB 298, which would require mandatory certification in basic first aid as a graduation requirement for all Georgia students. The course, offered in eight grade and higher, will provide a standard for certification and provide an opportunity for participating students to obtain a basic, hands-on first-aid certification.

Sen. Seay to Serve as Grand Marshall for MLK Parade

ATLANTA (Jan. 7, 2010) – Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) will serve as Grand Marshall for the 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration and parade, sponsored by the Fayette County NAACP on Monday, Jan. 18.  Seay is a Life Member of the NAACP, and has been active throughout her political career in supporting the organization’s goals and endeavors.
