ATLANTA (June 19, 2009) – Kids are out of school and ready for their summer vacation. But right now, most families are more worried about keeping a steady paycheck and putting food on the table than booking costly airline tickets or hotel rooms. Pricy vacations are going by the wayside while family budgets feel the pinch of a downward economy. The staycation trend created last year by high gas prices and a worsening economy is still a popular alternative this summer. In fact, 35 percent of workers said they will not take a vacation this year when asked by CareerBuilder.com’s annual vacation survey.

SAVANNAH (June 18, 2009) – Sen. Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) made the following statement regarding Rep. Vance Smith (R-Pine Mountain) being unanimously elected as Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Commissioner and Todd Long being appointed the Director of Planning for the GDOT. The planning director position was created by the General Assembly this spring with the passage of Senate Bill 200.

Sen. Smith Honors Fallen Georgia Soldier in Motorcycle Escort

ATLANTA (June 12, 2009) – Sen. Preston Smith (R-Rome) yesterday joined the Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia to escort fallen soldier Sgt. Jeffrey W. Jordan of Rome from the Richard B. Russell Airport to the funeral home in preparation for burial. Jordan, 21, died June 4 near Kapisa, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
