ATLANTA (July 15, 2020) | Gov. Kemp is set to sign Senate Bill 28 into law on Thursday, July 16, 2020. Sponsored by Sen. Jackson (D – Savannah), SB 28 establishes that insurance copayments must be reasonably priced in accordance with its corresponding health benefit plan.

Although the 2020 session has come to an end, the impact of our legislative work endures as we continue to serve the great people of this state. Perhaps the largest indicator of our dedicated efforts this year has been the final passage and signage of the Fiscal Year 2021 budget (FY21) by Governor Kemp. With the prevalence of COVID-19 in our communities, businesses have faced new constraints and typical sources of revenue have either been postponed or stunted. Georgia, as a result, faced a new economic outlook than the one we were previously looking at in January. The FY21 budget is in no way one that we had anticipated, but while reductions were necessary, Georgia remains economically strong.

ATLANTA (July 8, 2020) | Sen. Brian Strickland (R – McDonough) announced $6.7 million in bond financing in the 2021 Fiscal Year Budget for the site acquisition, design and construction of the Center for Education and Entrepreneurship at Southern Crescent Technical College in McDonough. The facility will be located near the entrance of the current Southern Crescent Campus in McDonough where an abandoned strip mall is located at Lakemont Drive and Highway 81.

The 2020 session has finally come to an end, Sine Die, completing what was likely the most unusual session ever. This session has been unprecedented, marked by a public health emergency, which saw us suspend for three months, only to return to face a budget crisis amid civil unrest. Despite the remarkable challenges, we pressed on to fulfill our duties and to complete our work for the people of Georgia. I’m proud of the resilience and focus shown by the Senate. We, along with our dedicated staff, came together, under difficult circumstances, to pass meaningful legislation in order to move Georgia forward. As hard as it was, I remain encouraged by the confidence you place in me to represent you in Atlanta. Your input and trust in me has been a key part of my service, and I thank you. Your support empowers me to pass key pieces of legislation that benefit our local businesses and communities, and I would like to highlight a few now.
