State legislators and Ms. CEO Inc. to announce initiative to make Georgia a model state for creating new jobs and economic progress among women entrepreneurs

More than 100 women business owners to convene at State Capitol for second annual ‘Women Entrepreneurs Day in Georgia’

ATLANTA (March 15, 2011) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) will join fellow legislators and Ms. CEO Inc. to officially announce House Resolution 409 and a Senate resolution recognizing Women Entrepreneurs Day in Georgia at the State Capitol, and to announce a new initiative to make Georgia a model state for creating new jobs and economic progress among women entrepreneurs.  The announcement will detail a plan to boost the success of Georgia’s 278,250 woman-owned small businesses – turning more of them into job-creating companies and contributing an additional $500 million, or more, to Georgia’s economy annually.

55 Georgia Legislators Urge Ratification of New START Treaty

Georgia state legislators meet with U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson in November to encourage passage of the New START Treaty.

ATLANTA (December 21, 2010) – The United States Senate continues debate on the New START treaty this week, an arms control agreement between the United States and Russia. A delegation of Georgia legislators is releasing a letter signed by 55 members of the Georgia General Assembly that was delivered to U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), encouraging them to vote for ratification of New START (New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty).

Legislators and Community Groups Call for Economic Considerations for Immigrant Law

Concerns are raised about potential negative impact on Georgia’s economy

ATLANTA (December 16, 2010) – Anticipated legislative proposals from the Georgia General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Committee on Immigration Reform are raising serious concerns about the impact on Georgia’s fragile economic recovery outlook.  In the face of Congressional failure to address immigration reform, the threat of job killing measures such as those that passed in Arizona loom over the upcoming legislative session.  Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) and Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone) call for comprehensive hearings that will look at the problem and demand a solution to protect Georgia’s security and economic recovery.
