We’ve seen a drop in temperature over recent weeks and some crisp mornings. Fall is definitely in the air, which signals exciting Friday night and Saturday football games, fun at the Georgia National Fair (in “normal” years) and much anticipated harvest time for Georgia farmers. However, the pandemic has impacted just about every aspect of our life and significantly changed, or cancelled, our seasonal traditions.

Capitol Recap: Public Safety and Social Services

With the deadline for the signing of bills behind us, I, along with the rest of my colleagues, have been able to utilize this time to truly reflect on all of our collective successes this year. The 2020 legislation session was unprecedented and at times, we were faced with some rather unexpected challenges. However, despite the unforeseen circumstances brought forth by COVID-19, I can say with absolute certainty that we have been able to make great strides in serving the people of Georgia. More specifically, I am proud of our efforts to ensure that some of the groups that need them the most, namely the children in our foster care programs and victims of human trafficking, are able to live better lives.

Capitol Recap: Healthcare Legislation

As I have discussed before, our legislative business doesn’t end when we Sine Die. Our work continues year-round, as we serve the varying needs of the great people of this state. To that point, Governor Brian Kemp has recently signed into law a number of pieces of legislation that attempt to resolve some of our state’s most pressing challenges related to healthcare. Given the current climate, and the continuing escalation of COVID-19 cases throughout the nation, the health and safety of Georgians remains paramount. These bills aim to improve access, affordability and transparency of healthcare for our citizens, and subsequently serve to improve the well-being and financial security of healthcare consumers in Georgia. I would like to highlight a few of these bills here today.
