Sen. Larry Walker Appointed Chair of Senate Study Committee

ATLANTA (June 20, 2019)  | Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) has been appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve as Chair of the Senate Study Committee on Creating a Georgia Agricultural Marketing Authority.

“I am excited to get to work on this study committee and am honored to be able to serve as a leader for one of the issues that directly effects farmers across our state,” said Sen. Walker. “Agriculture is our state’s pride, and we want to find ways to better showcase the diverse range of products this industry provides. This study committee will consider if an Agricultural Marketing Authority should be formed to help facilitate best practices to market our agricultural products and provide consumers and producers with the opportunity to buy and sell Georgia Grown products. I look forward to our members and constituents bringing their ideas to the table and helping promote Georgia agriculture.”

“Georgians expect their elected leaders to make deliberate, informed decisions to better our state,” said Lt. Governor Duncan. “The study committee process allows our Senators to dedicate extensive focus to a single issue and generate in-depth proposals for our next legislative session. I look forward to the hard work of Chairman Walker and the appointed members of the Senate Study Committee on Creating a Georgia Agricultural Marketing Authority as they meet to study, discuss, and prepare legislative action items for the Senate to consider in 2020.”

The Senate Study Committee on Creating a Georgia Agricultural Marketing Authority was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 442 during the 2019 Legislative Session. As stated in the resolution, the committee shall be comprised of five members of the Senate. The Senate Study Committee on Creating a Georgia Agricultural Marketing Authority will review whether a state-wide authority is needed to provide facilities and create events to promote and market Georgia’s vibrant agriculture industry, farmers and their products. The committee will report their findings no later than December 1, 2019.
