ATLANTA (May 6, 2019) | Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) was recently named a 2019 Legislative Champion by the Service Providers Association for Developmental Disabilities (SPADD).
“I am honored to be chosen as a 2019 Legislative Champion by SPADD and thank them for their devotion to supporting legislative measures that help this community,” said Sen. Walker. “Their work in making sure legislators notice and understand the unique needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is incredibly important in ensuring we are doing everything we can to provide quality change at the state level. I look forward to supporting legislation that is beneficial in the coming years and working with SPADD to further bring to light the provisions of IDD services in Georgia.”
Sen. Walker was selected for his work this past year on the Senate Study Committee on Excessive and Duplicative Regulatory Oversight of Community Based Intellectual and Developmental (IDD) Services and for supporting the 2020 budget, which includes a 10% increase for supported employment services and 125 new Medicaid slots, both of which were included in SPADD’s priorities. SPADD is an “inclusive association of community-based organizations that support people with disabilities. SPADD’s mission is to improve services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Georgia.”
