ATLANTA (March 7, 2023) | Yesterday, March 6, 2023, Senate Bill 199 passed the Georgia Senate with unanimous support. SB 199 would expand access to health savings accounts for state employees. SB 199 is the first bill authored by Senator Esteves to pass the full Senate body.

ATLANTA (March 7, 2023) | Sen. Chuck Payne (R – Dalton), has been appointed to serve on the Joint Georgia Halls of Fame Authority Overview Committee by Lt. Governor Burt Jones. The Joint Committee is composed of five members from the Georgia House of Representatives and five from the Georgia Senate. The committee is tasked with reviewing the actions of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Authority and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame authority.

ATLANTA (March 6, 2023) | Today, Senate Bill 211, sponsored by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education Sen. Billy Hickman (R – Statesboro), passed in the Georgia Senate with bipartisan support. SB 211 would create the Georgia Council on Literacy, which would be tasked with conducting comprehensive reviews of educational programs for all ages, state support for said programs, and other issues related to improving the literacy outcomes of Georgians from birth to adulthood. The Council will be composed of 24 members appointed by the Governor, Lt. Governor, and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

ATLANTA (March 6, 2023) | On Thursday, March 2, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 222, sponsored by Sen. Max Burns (R – Sylvania). SB 222 would prohibit certain government employees and election officials from receiving any funds or goods over the value of $200 from third-party groups to use towards conducting primaries or elections. SB 222 would also prohibit counties or municipalities from accepting donations for the purpose of election administration.

ATLANTA (March 3, 2023) | Yesterday, Senate Bill 55, sponsored by Senator Elena Parent (D – Atlanta), passed out of the Georgia Senate. SB 55, also known as the Lemonade Stand Act, would allow for children to sell non-consumable goods, pre-packaged food items and non-alcoholic beverages without requiring permits, licenses or incurring any tax, as long as the revenue totals $5,000 or less in a calendar year.
