Sen. Elena Parent, Reps. Mary Margaret Oliver, Omari Crawford and to Hold Legislative Town Hall

ATLANTA – State Senator Elena Parent (D-Atlanta) long with State Representatives Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) and Omari Crawford (D-Decatur) will host a legislative town hall to recap the 2024 legislative session and discuss election season issues on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 7-8 p.m. at Decatur City Hall.

Representative Mary Margaret Oliver represents the citizens of District 82, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Public Health Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources and the Governmental Affairs, Judiciary, Juvenile Justice and the Technology and Infrastructure Innovation committees.

Representative Omari Crawford represents the citizens of District 84, which includes portions of DeKalb County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Intragovernmental Coordination and Judiciary committees.

Sen. Ben Watson and Rep. Jesse Petrea Announce Signature of Nuisance Law

ATLANTA (April 9, 2024) – Yesterday, Sen. Ben Watson (R–Savannah) and Rep. Jesse Petrea (R–Savannah) announced that Governor Brian P. Kemp has signed Senate Bill 433 into law, granting the City of Tybee Island and any other local government in the state the authority to hold promoters of unpermitted events accountable for resulting costs. SB 443, sponsored by Senators Ben Watson, Derek Mallow (D–Savannah), and others, empowers local governments to pursue legal action against promoters or organizers of unpermitted events that cause public nuisances impeding the travel of law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, or other government personnel acting officially. Local governments can seek reimbursement for costs associated with public safety, traffic management, and sanitation services on behalf of the public.

Sen. Emanuel Jones Celebrates Final Passage Legislation to Increase Punishments for Reckless Driving

ATLANTA (April 1, 2024) — Last week, the Georgia Senate granted final passage to Senate Bill 10, sponsored by Sen. Emanuel Jones (D–Decatur). The bill introduces measures to establish an offense for knowingly attending and facilitating illegal drag races and to heighten penalties for reckless driving.

ATLANTA – Senator Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Transportation, and State Representative Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Chairman of the House Committee on Technology and Infrastructure Innovation, celebrate the final passage of Senate Bill 233, the “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act,” sponsored by Sen. Sen. Clint Dixon Applauds Passage of Swatting Legislation Through the Georgia General Assembly

ATLANTA (March 18, 2024) – Last week, Senate Bill 421 received final passage and awaits signature by Governor Brian P. Kemp. This measure, sponsored by the Senate Committee on Education and Youth Chairman Sen Clint Dixon (R–Gwinnett), would enhance the penalties for the offense of transmitting a false public alarm, while also enhancing penalties for the offense of drive-by-shootings and aggravated assault.
