ATLANTA (March 27, 2013) – The State Senate passed HB 354, carried by Sen. Jesse Stone (R-Waynesboro), by a vote of 45-8. HB 354 limits the total number of children in family day-care homes to six and group day-care homes to 18 and requires uninsured owners to notify parents.
The sixth child limit applies to all children (other than family members) under the age of 13 regardless of rather they are kept for pay.
“House Bill 354 safeguards our children from overcrowded day care facilities because protecting our children and ensuring they have the best care starts at an early age,” said Sen. Stone.
In addition, HB 354 revises definitions relating to child care facilities, replacing day-care centers with child care learning centers and recommends that owners of any early care and learning program have liability insurance coverage.
HB 354 now awaits the Governor’s final approval.
