State Senator David Lucas Sworn into Office

ATLANTA (January 15, 2013) – State Senator David Lucas (D-Macon) was officially sworn into office to represent the 26th District yesterday at the state Capitol.  Sen. Lucas will serve Hancock, Twiggs, Washington and Wilkinson counties along with portions of Bibb, Houston and Jones counties. 

“It is an honor to once again be at the State Capitol serving the people of Central Georgia,” said Sen. Lucas.  “I am excited to be back under the Gold Dome and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to pass smart and meaningful legislation this session.”

Prior to being elected to the Senate, Sen. Lucas served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1974 to 2011.  While in the House, Sen. Lucas sponsored legislation allowing for the first African-Americans to serve on City Council (HB 1024), as County Commissioner (HB 985) and on the Industrial Authority (HB 533).

Sen. Lucas has a Jurist Doctorate from Mercer University School of Medicine and a Bachelor’s of Political Science from the Tuskegee Institute.  He resides in Macon, Ga. with his wife, Elanie.  He has four children, David Jr., Aris, Leonard and Albert.
