Sen. Cowsert Recognizes Prostate Cancer Awareness Day

ATLANTA (February 9, 2017) | Senate Majority Leader Bill Cowsert (R – Athens) recognized February 6, 2017 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Day in the Senate with Senate Resolution 155.

“With SR 155, we commend ‘Save Our Dads’ founder and my personal friend, Kurt Gelfand, for his efforts in raising awareness about prostate cancer,” said Sen. Cowsert. “This disease will afflict hundreds of thousands of men in this country this year alone. We at the Senate appreciate everything the ‘Save Our Dads’ foundation does and thank them for their contributions to Georgia.”

Mr. Gelfand started “Save Our Dads” after he survived a battle against prostate cancer in order to raise awareness about the disease.

As stated in SR 155, men are six times more likely to get prostate cancer than women are to get breast cancer with one in six men at risk. Therefore, early screening can save lives; but since some men refuse to see their physicians, the cancer is detected too late.

“Save Our Dads” seeks to bring these issues to the forefront of public discourse and to support and provide solidarity for prostate cancer patients.
