ATLANTA (January 12, 2022) | In response to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris visiting Georgia to discuss the need to pass federal voting rights legislation, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Chairwoman State Senator Tonya P. Anderson (D – Lithonia) issues the following statement:
“The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus supports President Biden and Vice President Harris in pursuing passage of federal voting legislation by removing the archaic filibuster procedure. As we witnessed here in Georgia, there is a national effort to undermine American democracy by establishing laws that allow for one party to dictate election processes and outcomes. We cannot turn a blind eye to this moral and political assault on our freedom.
We, at the GLBC, remain vigilant in our opposition to legislation that is unfounded, misinformed, divisive, predicated on fear, and antithetical to our values as a state and country. Too many were jailed, injured, and killed to ensure all Americans had the right to vote. Their sacrifice will not be in vain, and their memory will not be tarnished.”
Established in 1975, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is a 501(c)3 non-profit, nonpartisan organization comprising of 68 Georgia House and Senate members. For more information about the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, please visit www.gablackcaucus.org or write to media@gablackcaucus.org.
