ATLANTA (January 24, 2012) – Senate Majority Whip Cecil Staton, (R-Macon) along with Governor Nathan Deal and several other elected officials, hosted 3rd graders from the Stratford Academy today to provide students with a first-hand look at the legislative process.
During their time at the Capitol, students were given the opportunity to observe the legislative process from the House and Senate galleries. After witnessing the legislative proceedings in action, students met with Governor Nathan Deal and posed for a commemorative photo.
In addition to meeting with the Governor, students were warmly welcomed to a luncheon hosted by their local Senator, Cecil Staton. As part of the luncheon, Sen. Staton spent time discussing his role in the State Legislature and the significant impact that government has on our daily lives.
“These students represent our next generation of voters; therefore it is imperative that students understand how state government works and the many ways they can get involved, whether as a citizen or a legislator,” said Sen. Staton. I firmly believe that Georgia’s young people deserve a strong foundation for their futures and support early childhood involvement as a means to prepare the next generation of leaders for the challenges of tomorrow.”
The Stratford Academy is an independent, non-sectarian, college preparatory school for students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.
