ATLANTA (February 4, 2014) | Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer (R-Duluth) today released the following statement answering questions about Senate Resolution 798.
“The purpose of Senate Resolution 798 was not to mediate any naming disputes but to salute our great friend, ally and trading partner, the Republic of Korea, and to welcome the Korean Consul General to the Senate Chamber.
“The resolution describes the ancestral homeland of the Korean people, including the bodies of water that surround the Korean peninsula of Asia.
“Senate Resolution 737, adopted on January 13, recognized Korean American Day and marked 111 years of Korean immigration to the United States.
“We were very happy to welcome the Korean Consul General and dignitaries from the Korean American community to the Senate Chamber to formally present these two Resolutions.”
