Statement from Sen. Butch Miller on House Bill 350 Bill Signing

ATLANTA (May 1, 2013) – Sen. Butch Miller (R- Gainesville) has released the following statement regarding the final passage and ceremonial bill signing of House Bill 350:

“I would like to thank Governor Nathan Deal for signing House Bill 350 into law today, which further demonstrates the state’s ongoing commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of our children.

“Children are our most valuable, yet vulnerable population and it is our responsibly to ensure their protection. All Georgia families deserve the peace of mind that their children are safe and properly protected when attending one of our state’s many daycare facilities. House Bill 350 provides an extra measure of accountability toward safeguarding our children by requiring daycare workers to pass a national background check every five years. This ensures that we have the right people in place to care for our young people and reduces the likelihood of abuse.

“It was truly an honor to work with my colleagues in the General Assembly, statewide child welfare advocates and countless families throughout our state to adopt this meaningful piece of legislation. It has always been one of my top priorities as a state legislator to support measures aimed at safeguarding our most precious resource, and I intend to do everything in my power to make Georgia a better place for our children.”
