ATLANTA (July 1, 2022) | In response to the historic swearing in of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Chairwoman Senator Tonya Anderson (D – Lithonia) issues the following statement:
“Yesterday history was again realized with the swearing in of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. She is the 116th Supreme Court Justice and the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in the land. It is important that each branch of government, and each level of government, represents the diversity of our country. Not just race, or gender, or religion, but also of ideas.
The beauty of our country are its diversity and commitment to certain ideals – freedom, liberty, and equality. I know Justice Brown Jackson will ensure those ideals are protected as she serves our Court with dignity and grace.”
Established in 1975, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is a 501(c)3 non-profit, nonpartisan organization comprising of 68 Georgia House and Senate members.
