Senator William Ligon on Apple Inc.’s Release of COVID-19 App and Website

ATLANTA (April 2, 2020) | Last week, Apple Inc., in partnership with the White House Coronavirus Task Force, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), released a COVID-19 app and website. Content on these platforms will provide tools and offers a series of questions that Americans can use to determine whether or not they should seek care for COVID-19 symptoms. The app also provides CDC recommendations, including guidelines for social distancing and self-isolating, how to closely monitor symptoms, recommendations on testing and when to contact a medical provider.

“The more tools we have in place for identifying symptoms and providing factual information, the better,” said Sen. Ligon (R – White Oak). “Concerns around possible symptoms of COVID-19 have prompted citizens to show up unannounced at hospitals and doctor’s offices for testing, which is increasing potential exposure and overwhelming our healthcare system. This app will provide citizens with a screening tool to determine if, in fact, they do have COVID-19 symptoms and, if so, what steps need to be taken next.”

Users can download the free app from Apple’s App Store, or access the tool online at http://www.apple.com/covid19. Updated information on COVID-19 can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

Please visit Sen. Ligon’s website at www.senatorligon.com for a listing of many other resources available to help navigate this difficult season. With Governor Kemp’s recent shelter-in-place order that will be activated on Friday, these resources will be increasingly important for citizens.
